wind damage

wind damage, originally uploaded by muttsywonder.

I'm so sad to say that a huge tree fell this week in our front yard-- which was always such an inspiration to me!! (It was the reason I did the Connections designs-- its tree top met with another tree high in the sky).

Here in Dallas we experienced a huge line of thunderstorms with high winds, and sadly, my huge lovely tree snapped like a twig. I've been dealing with the clean up, insurance (it fell on our house) and other things this week... so just thought I had to post a bit about it. Sort of my ode to this big lovely tree & a sad little farewell!

I also wanted to say thanks to http://cutoutandcollect.etsy.com for making a treasury in honor of my tree! Definitely check it out before it disappears : http://bit.ly/11nMGt

Harrilu_3

I can't believe it! Harrilu is turning 3 this month!! All of the support-- whether it be a kind word or something more, it has meant so much to us. We hope the next 3 yrs will be even better as we continue to grow! Thank you :)

Red & Black Cherry Blossom Dress with Butterfly Clips

Brand new & now in my shop! Cotton racer back dress hand screened with black cherry blossom branches that continue around the dress-- here I have it paired with a white knit belt tied w/a bow, white camisole & white butterfly pins (also now available)

This dress is really very versatile-- throw on a sweater for a little more coverage, ditch the belt & cami & wear it to the beach for a coverup-- belt it high *as I have here* for an empire waist dress that is perfect for everyday or wrap the belt wider at the waist like a kabuki belt. You could also throw on some skinny jeans or leggings and wear it as a tunic-- if its cold, throw it over a long sleeve tee-- really, its all up to your imagination!! Pieces like these are always what I gravitate towards-- somethign you can wear different ways & still be comfortable on the scorching days in summer!

Part Time Intern, anyone?

Are you, or some student or recent graduate, or anyone you know interested in a paid internship with me here at Harrilu?

Let me know! I'm open to a few various skill sets & could really use the help this Summer at least 1/2 day 1-2x's each week (but could be more time as needed). I've got a lot of different hats that I wear-- and I'd love to work with anyone interested in any portion (or all) of what I do-- I have some ideas of things that they could work on--

I'm looking for someone who will be willing to work with me here in by home-based studio space & has an interest in graphic design, apparel or screenprinting! I will be taking resumes and interviewing a few folks, so if you know of anyone interested, please let me know!

Some of the things that an intern could be assisting with & learning-
For someone who likes graphic design:

  • assistance in creating marketing materials
  • help maintaining/improving website or blog
  • introduced to process of screen printing
  • working on signage, promotional items

For someone more interested in apparel design:

  • assistance in apparel garment finishing/sewing on of embellishments or accessories
  • working with inventory, supplies, and garment manufacturers
  • introduction to screenprinting
  • working with boutiques/buyers/retailers for information requests, etc

And then there's the everyday stuff that I always need help with:

    • Packing/Shipping Orders
    • Labeling Garments
    • Supply inventory and organization

New Black & Blue Willow Dress

040209 Alex 003 copy

I've added another dress to my shops! This is a racerback cotton tank dress in black with a slate blue/teal color print. I did a willow print from neckline down & then all the way around the bottom of the dress

And I have to say that I love these shots from Marcus Lopez! (Check out more of Marcus Lopez's shots here http://www.myspace.com/totalmojo   What a truly talented person-- and of course the model is gorgeous! I would seriously hurt someone to have legs that long & lovely!!

I will have more to come in the next week(s) months-- I think that these dresses are so versatile-- they are lightweight-- look adorable with a little cardigan or structured blazer (to dress them up)-- or go super casual and even wear them with sneakers. I love a little cotton dress in the spring & summer!!

Find  more of my new items online on http://www.harrilu.com or one of my other shops: Etsy or FunkyFinds, etc! :)

Wine on the Roof next Saturday (sneak peak)

I'm finishing up my outfit for Wine On the Roof next Saturday & thought I'd share just a little sample of what its going to be! My first ever hat made-- seems hilarious that I made it for a dog!!

Pippa is my fit model, but just a little smaller so the hat is working hard to stay on.. LOL

My inspiration-- An American In Paris-- (I'm a sucker for a good Gene Kelly movie)...

Hope you'll check it out if you're in the Dallas area! These dogs need great loving homes, and they could definitely use the donation! (I have more details in my last post)

Thank you!! FunkyFinds Spring Fling Was Great!

sunny day #3= Happy Harriet, originally uploaded by muttsywonder.

Just wanted to thank everyone who came by my booth at Spring Fling-- it was a great show! So well organized & some amazing vendors!! If you weren't there, I hope you'll keep reading-- b/c some seriously wonderful shopping was happening!!

I got some amazing goodies from AshleyAkers (http://ashleyakers.etsy.com), DH Originals, Tefi Designs (tefidesigns.etsy.com) & More! All the dallas craft mafia gals were great-- (www.thedallascraftmafia.com) we had a fun day I think! I still have some things on my list to get from folks like FisForFrank, Cahoots Handbags, Madeline Wood, Heatherly, Parsimony, Mighty Munchkin, PinkLemonade BoutiqueBags, Quid, and gosh-- so many more folks. Some really amazing artists, designers were there!! If you weren't able to join the fun-- check out the Funkyfinds.us/springfling website for the vendors & links to their shops.. I' know I'll be shopping throughout the year off that page!

It was wonderful so many people donated to the raffle & the Humane Society of North Texas-- the puppies were adorable!! I thought if I went near them too often I'd melt!!

thanks again!!

Don't Forget: This Saturday!!

Its ALL I can think about-- I'll be off on Friday setting up for the show-- I hope you'll stop by and see me! I'm one of the first booths (in the center section) as you walk into the area!!

I'm going to have tons of new stuff-- so please stop by to see me on your way in!! I don't have gobs of sizes and inventory of some things-- so sorry in advance if I run out of your size in a design!

Be sure to get a $1 raffle ticket-- the first 50 sold get a handmade tote bag (made by the DCM)-- & I printed the patches for them. They are really getting money for a few great causes, including the North Texas Humane Society, Tarrant Area Food Bank & the Aflac Cancer Center-- and there are going to be some great prizes!!

And-- they are going to be adopting out animals through the North Texas Humane Society-- so be sure to stop by and see them too! All the pets adopted out are going to get a free engraved tag by Mimi's Pet Tags & a Funky Finds doggie shirt! (I printed those too!)

This is an event for EVERYBODY-- 130 vendors to shop, a food vendor *yay*, and lots of fun.. Hope to see you there!!

New: Dresses & More To Come

New: Dresses & More To Come, originally uploaded by muttsywonder.

I just got back some brand new photos by the talented Mr. Marcus Lopez & a great model: Alexandra Grady! These are just in time to announce my brand new dresses I'll be making available in the upcoming weeks!

I call this one On a Clear Day -- it is a one size fits best-- and it is a soft knit with a vneck cut back and bodice with raw edges. I pair it with a knit white wrap belt that makes it extremely comfortable! It also looks adorable with a little short blazer to dress it up or to hide an extra little baggage or a sweater-- or with a loose drapy cardigan/wrap top-- the bright, fresh color allows you to mix it up alot!

Okay-- so what is One Size Fits Best-- well, this one is super stretchy. It is also a more fitted style-- so you can stretch it to loosen it up if you like, or allow it to grace your lovely female curves as fitted as you like.

I do have more dresses coming just in time for spring and these I think can take you all the way into fall-- almost everything I have can be layered, which I love-- so-- I hope you like these.. more of Marcus's photos to come soon.. I'm just working hard to get it all together!!

Next Weekend in Cow Town!

I'm a bit nervous & busy getting ready for the first show of Spring for me & Harrilu-- Funky Finds Spring Fling in Ft.Worth! This is a really big, new one!! Over 100 vendors (we'll be pretty close to the front entrance in the center)

The Dallas Craft Mafia made the 50 givaway bags & I printed some dog tees for the Humane Society adoptions-- so its been something that seems like has been coming for some time-- I can't wait!!

I'm planning on some new items that aren't on my site(s)!! So, it will be fun to see what people think about those.. And, of course a few bargains too!!

If you're in the area (or anywhere near) I think it will be worth a drive to come check it out. I think this is the largest indie show I've been part of in the DFW area-- and there is definitely a lot of great shopping!! I already have a list going for myself-- believe me I'll be working for the stuff I'll have bought while I'm there ;)

What makes it even better is that they will be selling some food items, so you can really make a day of it!!

You can find all the details at http://www.funkyfinds.us/springfling

Michael (my husband) and I will be there --- we hope to see a few familiar faces there!!

Flight Burnout & More New Photos

Flight Burnout Tee, originally uploaded by muttsywonder.

Today I'm going to be posting a new method that I'm working on-- my very own burn out tees! If you've never seen these up close, I can say it is hard to do justice to them in a photo.

My design is actually semi-sheer in the fabric-- the darker gray color has been "burned out" of the shirt leaving semi-sheer white cut out areas. This does make the top a little more delicate to wash (so probably just lay flat to dry) but it does make it even more flexible to wear!

Just choose you favorite tank top, cami or through it over a fun bathing suit! The semi-sheer areas can add a lot of fun color & interest to your outfit.

Okay-- so the Gal's of the Dallas Craft Mafia & I did a photo shoot together! We thought it would be fun to see how all of our very different styles could be worn together for a unique style-feel.

I know for myself I love to add little unexpected touches using accessories. So, this was really fun!!

I will be using more in the future -- easy to spot b/c it will be against the brick! Either way its always amazing to see one of the things I make on someone-- :)

Thanks to Kerby @ SpeedShotPhoto, Models: Lipa, Jen Dixon & Melissa Meow, and the make up artist vivemakeup.com!

PinShow Lace/White Tee & Peonies skirt, photo by Jenifer McNeil Baker

I know I haven't blogged in some time-- I guess I've been busy getting caught up with orders & planning for the rest of this Spring/Summer. It's amazing how much time it takes to create something from a sketch to something I can sell.

The exciting news from me is that I have full outfits available now! Including my Grey (or gray) & White Lace Tee that was made for my Peonies Skirt! This little tee also looks great with jeans & the color is so versatile! You can add pops of yellow & pair it with black, or put it with purple-- Of course, I love it best with the skirt in shades of slate blue/grey & coral...

And, I have *on my harrilu site* my bow leggings-- made to pair with my Nature's Lace Tunic! I have a few more coordinates coming out here soon-- its just wrangling with my computer & sewing machine that's really slowing me down!!

Happy St Patricks Day!!-- Time for A Little Green

Tuffet in Green Scoop Neck, originally uploaded by muttsywonder.

Happy St.Patricks Day-- I hope you're like me & scouring the streets looking for people to pinch who aren't wearing green! ;)

Have you seen my new green items??
This is my Scoop Neck Tuffet tee in kelly green-- I love this color... I keep thinking this is one of those shirts you could wear with a jacket to dress it up or on its own more casually-- or you could wear it when its cooler out with a long sleeve underneath..

I have also just posted a 1-of-a-kind messenger bag featuring appliqued butterflies (that I screenprinted) and some contrasting white stitching on my etsy site. I did this b/c its a bit easier to control when there's just one.. check it out here:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vl_other_2&listing_id=22411647

Hope you have a great day-- a big green beer, some corned beef or just holler like an Irishman! (I can say that I'm married to one-- well at least 1/2 irish.. and somewhere I'm part too!-- and if that doesn't count, he went to NotreDame...)

A Little Lace

A Little Lace, originally uploaded by muttsywonder.

The newest offering from me is now available in my shop! Hand screened using water based inks.. I have it tilting to the side -- its actually even better on a real person-- sort of a fun touch of lace but in a graphic way...

I hope you like it!
